Tender Love and Care
In Classroom 3, we are learning about spring and all the spring babies that arrive at this time of year. As part of this exploration, we had a baby center in our classroom for dramatic play. The children loved feeding, washing and changing the babies. They even tried to help them use the potty.
As the week went on, the children loved wrapping the babies in blankets and rocking them to sleep singing familiar lullabies. One of the children asked if she could take her baby to the reading center where we had books about families and babies. I gave her a scarf and showed her how she could put the baby on her back and carry it with her. This sparked a great interest in the children. I showed them some photos of different families around the world and how other mothers and fathers carried their babies.
All the children wanted a turn strapping their babies on their backs. One child exclaimed, “my mommy carries my little brother like that”.
Needless to say, the babies went with these two girls all throughout the morning as they played. They even went to their gym time taking their babies on their backs. The total beauty of the caring and tenderness these children showed with their babies was worth sharing.
