Community Helpers

The Kindergarten Class had been talking a lot about what they wanted to become when they grow up. In support to this interest, the class held a Community Helpers Week. The Dramatics Centre was set-up with different costumes and tools of different people from all walks of life: policeman, fireman, mailman, doctor, nurse, paramedic, construction worker, and chef. The Quiet Corner/Reading Corner was filled with books and pictures of the different types of community helpers. At the circle, we talked about what their dream jobs were and why.

Some of the childrens’ responses were:

Mason said, “I want to become a policeman.”

Nathneal and Cayden wanted to be “a builder.”

Kelly, Brayden, Tyson, Bryce, Rylen, and Liam shared the same dream. They all said, “I want to become a fireman.”

Kalista said, “I want to become a policeman.”

While Sierra said, “I want to become a teacher.”

The highlight of the Community Helpers interest was when CUPS’ very own Chef Sameer came in the Kindergarten Classroom to talk about his profession. He talked about what he does as a Chef and about the tools that he uses in the kitchen. Chef Sameer also discussed about the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating habits. Then, the best part came when he took the children for a tour to his work place: the kitchen. He showed everybody his working tools and the facility. There was a question-and answer portion after the tour. The children were very much engaged that all of them asked the chef all sorts of different questions.

It was such a very enriching week for all the Kindergarten children.

Well, let us all see and wait what these little earthlings are going to become in the future. The best is yet to come, for sure!
